CARTER, Mary Vieth (nee Brown) July 27, 1921 - August 21, 2008 Mary was the cherished wife and best friend of Harry for 63 years. Her daughters, Mary Ann (Ross Varley), Patricia (John Turner), Norma (Bob Wrightly), and Sarah (Glenn Hand), treasured her love, generosity and kindness. Mary was the devoted grandmother of Kimberly, Janet, Jennifer, Sarah (Maurice Boire), Fred (CJ Murphy), Christine (Tom Phillips), Michael (Jill), and Patrick (Stacey) and the late Eric Turner. Beloved great-grandmother to: Owen, Benjamin, Keelan, Harrison, Dennis, Gavin, and Evelyn. Sadly missed by her brothers and sisters-in-law; Leona Carter CA and children in UK and CA.; Peter Carter (Heather) and family in NZ; Denis Carter (Vera) in UK, and her special friend Betty Welch in USA. She was predeceased by Eric and Leila Carter, UK. Mary graduated from Edgehill School for Girls and entered nursing school in Mass. USA. After raising her family and working in nursing homes in Ottawa and Montreal, Mary retired with Harry to Newboro where they enjoyed the lake, their stunning garden and cosy community. Mary loved reading and served as a volunteer and a member of the Friends of the Westport Library. Mary was an accomplished needlewoman in many sewing and needle crafts. She was also a wonderful cook who loved to share great times with her family and friends. Harry and Mary travelled widely visiting family and seeing the world. Our family wish to express our deepest appreciation to all the staff on Gatineau 2S for their tremendous support and care given to Mary on her final journey. Visitation is Tuesday, August 26 from 7-9 pm at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair, and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa. A celebration of Mary's life will take place at: St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (Corner of Somerset and Elgin), Wednesday, August 27 at 11 A.M., with reception to follow. Please consider the Perley Rideau Foundation and the Alzheimer Society in your tributes to celebrate Mary's life.
