Mary Carolyn (Routh) McGehee, age 74, left her loved ones behind at 6:15 a.m. August 28, 2006, after a long illness. She was born January 23, 1932, to Eli and Mary Gladys Routh, Springfield, Mo. Mary Carolyn was loving and caring and emulated Christ in everything she did for herself and others. She was an accomplished harpist/pianist and played professionally for many years, but some of her fondest memories were those of teaching her hundreds of students her love of music. Mary Carolyn was a teacher's aid for many years in the Springfield Public School System until her retirement in 2001. She brought her love of music to the classroom that touched so many young people. Mary Carolyn was very devoted to her family, her church and her many friends and will be missed dearly. She now joins many loved ones as she returns home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Mary Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Teresa Sullins and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Jason and wife, Lolita Bear, Jeff Bear and fiancee, Crystal Jahnke, Stacy Bear, and Matthew Bear; and two great-grandchildren, Kadin Riley Jahnke and Gladys Maria Bear, all of Springfield, Mo. Funeral services for Mary Carolyn McGehee will be Thursday, August 31, 2006, at 1 p.m. at University Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be tonight, Aug. 30, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Per Mary Carolyn's request, there will be a private burial service for family members preceding the funeral service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the University Heights Baptist Church Music Department.
