Services for Mary Lou Werts Carlson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, with pastors Chris Fischer and L.E. Cumbee officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Saluda County.The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 to 8. Memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 1186 Mount Calvary Road, Johnston, SC 29832.Mrs. Carlson, a native of Greenwood County, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Levi E. and Lillian Nicholson Werts. After graduating from Chappells High School, Mrs. Carlson continued her education at Winthrop and Newberry colleges. Moving to Johnston after marriage, she was employed at Pargas and Herlong Motor Co. Retiring early, she returned to the home to care for her mother and became a homemaker again. She loved her yard and flowers, working in them constantly. She was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin Carlson; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Lynn Carlson, of Johnston; a grandson, Nicholas, of Greenville; and a granddaughter, Adrian, of Johnston.
