Mary C. Gunther 1914-2009 MANCHESTER CENTER Mary C. Gunther, 95, a resident of Manchester Center, passed away Friday evening Oct. 30, 2009 at Albany, N.Y. Medical Center. Mary was born in Cedarhurst, Long Island on Aug. 1, 1914, the daughter of James and Mary Elrick Cummings, and received her education in Cedarhurst schools. On Oct. 2, 1937 she married Edward F. Gunther and made their home on Long Island until January of 1948 when they moved to East Dorset, Vt. and started the Blue Ribbon Restaurant and Cabins, which they owned and operated until 1966. Mary then worked in local gift shops until she retired. Mary enjoyed cooking, collecting Hummel figurines and spending time at home with her family. Mary was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary is survived by her sons , Edward J. Gunther of Erie, Pa. and Bruce E. Gunther of Manchester Center; her grandsons, Richard and Karl Gunther of Erie, Pa.; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, who died in July, 1985; her four brothers; and two sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mary will be held Saturday afternoon Nov. 8, 2009 at 3 p.m. at BREWSTER FUNERAL SERVICE, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, VT. Rev. John Mitchell of Zion Episcopal Church will conduct the service. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday evening Nov. 7, 2009 from 5 to 7p.m. when the family is in attendance.
