AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Helen Tankersley Burgess, 89, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm today Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with Reverend Jim Hogan officiating. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery. Mrs. Burgess was a native of Winfield, GA and resided in Savannah, GA for 13 years, before moving to Augusta, GA, where she has resided for 49 years. She attended Crawford Avenue Baptist Church for many years and retired as Manager, of the Women's Department, from J. B. White Company, after 26 years of service. Mrs. Burgess was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be remembered for her positive and always happy attitude, which she expressed to everyone throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mitchell Burgess, Sr., daughter, Judy B. Hudson, parents and two brothers, Lamar and Lawrence Tankersley. She is survived by her son, Charles Mitchell Burgess, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Leesville, SC, sister, Bernice T. Douglas of Augusta, GA and four grandchildren, Kenneth and Reid Hudson of Harlem, GA, Michelle H. Humphrey and husband, Chris of Thomson, GA and Megan Burgess of Lexington, SC. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hudson, Reid Hudson, John Tankersley, Brian Tankersley, Michael Tankersley and Jerry Tankersley. The family will receive friends today Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 1:00 pm until the time of services, at Platt's Crawford Avenue.
