Mary Belle Murphy, 90, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born November 15, 1918, to Ellis C. and Lillie Haymes Miller, near Corkery, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Urbana. Mary also attended Southwest Teachers College, where she met and married her husband, Doyle Young, and to this union three children were born. They moved to San Diego, California, where they both worked in the aircraft industry, building planes for the war effort. Doyle passed away in February, 1960. Mary Belle moved the family to Springfield. Later she married Nolan Murphy. Mary Belle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle; son David; four siblings, John Leland Miller, Elinor Franklin, Marjorie Carter and Carl Miller; and a niece, Rosemary Bryant. She is survived by two daughters, Marilynne Cole and Martha Ann Glass; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Reuter; a brother, Billy Joe Miller; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Belle had the most gentle, kindest heart, and lived her life doing for others. She will be missed by the many who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 2 p.m., in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Midtown, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, in Republic. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
