Mary Simmonds December 24, 1921 - April 25, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) SIMMONDS, Mary - 83, North Preston, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2005, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in North Preston, she was a daughter of the late Edith (Downey) and Thomas Beals Sr. She was the wife of the late Harvey Simmonds Sr. She was a long-standing member of Saint Thomas United Baptist Church and occasionally she sang in Mother's Day concerts at the church. Surviving are sons, Walter Sr. (Viola), Harvey Jr. (Alice), both of North Preston; Roger Sr. (Jaunita), East Preston; Leonard, Montreal; Donald, Lower Sackville; Phillip, Halifax; Freeman (Lori), Saint John, N.B.; Christopher, Dartmouth; daughters, Paulette (Mrs. King Edward Simmonds), Roselene (Mrs. Tony Atuanya), Theresa, all of North Preston; Daisy (Mrs. Michael Williams), East Preston; Creanie (Mrs. Bruce Burton), Edith (Mrs. Troy Ash), both of Dartmouth; adopted daughter, Lorraine, Toronto; sisters, Martha, Halifax; Gladys, Jessie, both of North Preston; brother, Malcolm, Halifax; 50 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren, and several Godchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Beverley; son, Clemmie Sr.; sister, Daisy; brothers, Wilbert, Joseph, Thomas Jr., and Stanley. She was a loving and dedicated wife, a caring mother to all her children and grandchildren. She looked out for everyone in her immediate area. She was very supportive and you could count on her wisdom every time that you visited her. She will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, in Atlantic Funeral Home with Rev. Wallace Smith officiating. Burial to follow in Saint Thomas United Baptist Church Cemetery in North Preston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Thomas United Baptist Church Building Fund or Red Cross Society.
