CARTER, MARY ANNE, 92, of Louisville passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013. She was born February 21, 1921 in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Joseph G. Thornbury and Cora Lawrence Thornbury and was retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education after 22 years of service. Mary Anne moved from Norfolk to Louisville as a child and attended Louisville Girls High and later the U.S. Naval Training School in New York as an apprentice seaman (V-10) Naval Reserve, being honorably discharged in 1943. In 1947 she married James Logan Carter and started a family, having raised two children and were married for 40 years until his death in 1987. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph G. Thornbury Jr., Nell Thornbury Jackson and Sara Thornbury Jaglowicz. Mary Anne is survived by her daughter, Janet C. Hulcher (George) of Orlando, FL.; son, James L. Carter Jr. of Louisville; grandchildren, Carter L. Hulcher of Morgantown, WV, Kim Hulcher DePalma (Mark) of Jacksonville, FL, Rick Hulcher of Houston, TX and John Hulcher (Emilie) of Camas, WA; and one great-grandchild, Madison Hulcher of Camas, WA. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, in St. Matthews, was entrusted with arrangements. Memorial gifts in the form of contributions may be made to WHAS Crusade for Children. www.rattermans.com
