Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Brevard on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2 PM , followed by a grave side service at Gillespie Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church parlor an hour prior to the service. Mary Alice was born on December 7, 1924 in Brevard, daughter of the late Joseph Henry Tinsley and Bertha Mae McCall Tinsley. She graduated from Brevard High School in 1941 and Brevard College in 1943, attended Duke University and graduated in 1947 from Asheville Mission Hospital Training School for Nurses in Asheville, NC as a Registered Nurse. She married Ed Allen in 1949n and she was a public health nurse with the Transylvania County Health Department for over 20 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Edgar Allen in 1997, her sister Irene Tinsley Knight in 1988 and her beloved niece Martha Jo Knight Hall in 2009. Survivors include her son Bill (Joe) Allen and wife Linda of Charlotte, NC, daughter Dawn Allen of Greensboro, NC, nephew Victor Knight of Raleigh, NC, nephew-in-law Forrest Hall of Shalotte, NC, great nephew and nieces Dan Hall, Krystal Knight and Victoria Knight, and great-great niece and nephew Danielle Hall and Justin Hall. She is also survived by devoted nieces and nephews from her husband's family - John Allen, Raymond Bullock, Carole Youmans, Kay Bank, Tommye Gadol, Leighton Tillman, Lynn Cody, Becky Pifer and their spouses and children. Memorials may be made to the Mission Foundation Nurses Education Fund, Mission Hospitals, Asheville, NC, TRH Hospice, Brevard, NC, or the Friends of the Library, Transylvania County Library, Brevard, NC.
