MARY ALICE CARPENTER VALPARAISO, IN Mary Alice Carpenter, 89 of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009 at Life Care Center. She was born November 29, 1920 in Harvey, IL to Thomas C. and Leona C. (Mergen) Greenwell. Mary Alice graduated from Washington Township High School and had worked at the Valparaiso Office Supply for many years. Following her retirement from Office Supply, she worked at McGill/Emerson. On September 25, 1940 in Valparaiso, she married Durwood Carpenter, who preceded her in death September 22, 2009. She is survived by one son, Joel (Sharon) Carpenter of Valparaiso. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2 at 12:00 noon at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
