MARY AGNES STARR (NEE FERGUSON) CROWN POINT, IN Mary Agnes Starr, age 94, of Crown Point, formerly of Steubenville, OH, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Wittenberg Lutheran Village, Crown Point. Born and raised in Steubenville, OH, Mary Agnes found her greatest purpose and joy in life as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband of 73 years, Oscar (Teemy) were married in April of 1936, and were the proud parents of five children. Mary Agnes was truly a "family" woman and she liked nothing better than when the family was able to come home. Holidays were especially treasured. Mary Agnes was always front-row center when her children were involved in their many sports, musical specials, and programs of various sorts. She and Teemy were known to travel many miles on numerous occasions to attend these events. Mary Agnes was gifted with a beautiful alto voice and was delighted to sing in the church choirs at Kolmont Community Church and LaBelle View Church of Christ. Naturally a homemaker, Mary Agnes was also a teacher's aide at Grant Junior High School and spent many hours as a volunteer at the Ohio Valley Hospital in Pleasant Heights. When her children were young and times were hard, Mary Agnes always found a way to feed her family and provide for their ever-expanding needs. The children especially loved her "boiled" meals … she could boil anything into a substantial meal. With seven mouths to feed, Mary Agnes was heard to say that the back, neck, and wings of a chicken were the best tasting parts … and she claimed them for herself. Mary Agnes was truly an affectionate mother and in turn taught her children the sweet ability to communicate their feelings. Mary Agnes was preceded in death by her parents: Austin and Mary Alberta (Melson) Ferguson; brothers: Eugene (Alverda) Ferguson and Ralph (Jane) Ferguson. She is survived by her five children: Allen (Sonja) Starr of Ft. Wayne, IN, John (Rebecca) Starr of Crown Point, IN, Guy (Shirley) Starr of Canal Fulton, OH, Gail (Jim) Larkin of Front Royal, VA, and Barbara Starr of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Scott (Tina) Starr, Kerry (Robert) Burke, Mindy (John) Grubbs, Daniel (Abbe) Starr, John W. (Laurie) Starr, Amy (James) Eisenhutt, David (Michelle) Starr, Tara (Daniel) Snyder, Michele (Scott) Armon, Jamie Larkin, Wendy (John) Sweeney, John (Lisa) Miller, Denise (Ron) Fallert, and Darrick Litton; and many great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM at LaBelle View Church of Christ, 301 Ohio St., Steubenville, OH with John P. Starr officiating.
