Mary Ackary Waldron Deerfield Mary, girl of the Upper Hudson, slipped into history on April 14, 2013, leaving memories of a devoted mother, a dedicated volunteer, an inspired baker of tollhouse cookies. Born in Glens Falls, NY, on April 12, 1925, she was the sixth of seven children of Zeriff Abbott and John Ackary of Damascus, Syria. She and husband, Richard, moved first to Schenectady and then to Deerfield where life was good among congenial neighbors. Decades of volunteering followed at both Faxton Hospital and the Arc. She was predeceased by her father in 1945; her mother in 1954; four sisters, Susie Shahwood of Port Huron, MI, Sarah Fox of Phoenix, AZ, Dorothy Thomas of Enfield, CT, and Ida Harrington of Glens Falls, NY; two brothers, Samuel of Glens Falls, NY, and Theodore of Warrensburg, NY. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Richard; daughter, Barbara (Michael) Smith and her children, Christine (Charles) Kaslavage and their children, Lucas and Kaitlyn; Eric (Alissa) Bartholomay and their children, Andrew, Aurora and Archer; daughter, Carol (Henry) Butkiewicz and their children, Russell (Marissa) of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Melissa of Binghamton, NY; a sister-in-law, Alice Ackary of Warrensburg, NY; and nieces and nephews in both CT and TX. There will be no calling hours, and services will be at the convenience of the family. All of Mary's family thank the people of St. Lukes Home for all their help and concern in some of the difficult days before her death.
