BREWER - Mary A. "Betty" Jordan, 86, went to be with the Lord Jan. 21, 2012. Betty was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Hodgdon, daughter of Lena (Jewett) and Coleman Addington. Her early life was spent in the Hodgdon area where she had fond memories of picking potatoes, swimming in Mill Pond, and playing on the Hodgdon High basketball team with her lifelong friend, Marie Rouse McGlauflin. Later she worked as a switchboard operator at Houlton Army Air Base, where she met her husband, Richard, who was stationed there. After World War II they moved to Brewer. For many years she cherished their August vacations in Prince Edward Island. She was secretary to the principal at Brewer High School for 20 years where she made many lasting friendships. She enjoyed worshipping with her church family at Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, until arthritis forced her to be homebound. She served for several years as church librarian there and on several other committees as well. During her retirement years she was an avid Red Sox fan. She always had a good word for them even during the down years. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Rick and Martha Ann Jordan of Machiasport, Ken and Dawn Jordan of Brewer, Tim and Roberta Jordan of Glenburn and Nancy and Bill Chute of Holden; her grandchildren, Derek Jordan, Melissa Engelsberg and her husband, David, Matt Jordan, Mike Jordan, Dan Jordan and his girlfriend, Ashley Kerekes, Scott Jordan, Craig Glass and his wife, Abby, and Colin Glass and his fiancee, Lyla Wright; her great-grandchildren, Alex Jordan, Ryan and Megan Engelsberg, Spencer and Riley Jordan, and Evan and Ella Glass; sister-in-law, Althea Drinkwater and her husband, Russ, of Fort Myers, Fla., brother-in-law, Bill Schoenheiter and nephew, Phil Schoenheiter, of Arlington, Mass.; sister-in-law, Muriel Jordan of Dowling Park, Fla.; nieces, Betty Hanley and her husband, Phil, of Church Road, Va., Connie Quint of Carmichael, Calif.; several other nieces and nephews. Betty's family thanks the staff at Winterberry Heights Assisted Living and Brewer Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care provided to her in the last couple of months. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to WHCF radio, P.O. Box 5000, Bangor, ME 04402.
