June 16, 2005 Mary "Molly" A. Hughes, 88, of the Nottingham, Jamesville, NY, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2005. Molly was born March 5, 1917, in Tres Ritos, New Mexico, and resided in Toledo, Ohio, before moving to Syracuse in 1943. She attended Man-hattanville College and was the widow of Richard T. Hughes, who died in 1993. Throughout her lifetime she gave generously of her time and talents to volunteer work covering a broad spectrum of community activities. These included the United Way, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, Everson Museum and the Republican Party. A 30-year solicitor for the United Way Campaign, she served as district chairman for more than 12 years. For many years she served as vice chairman of the City Planning Commission and was a member of the Syracuse Onondaga Planning Commission. A communicant of Immaculate Conception of Fayetteville, she also served on the parish council of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Her former board memberships have included the Junior League, Syracuse Garden Club, Visiting Nurses Association, Volunteer Center, Onondaga County Girl Scouts, Corinthian Foundation, of which she was a founding member, Regional Planning and Development Board, ALPHA-CHIPS Health Planning Agency and the Central NY Kidney Disease Society. She is survived by her two sons, James (Charlene) of Fayetteville, NY, and George (Madeleine) of Annapolis, MD; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church of Fayetteville. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 E. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crouse Health Foundation, 736 Irving Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210 or the Loretto Foundation, 1305 Nottingham Rd., Jamesville, NY 13078.
