Marvin Leon "Marty" Miller, 74, of Hinesville departed this life Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Hospice Savannah.Mr. Miller was born April 23, 1940, in Broseley, Missouri, to Gilbert and Clara Elizabeth (Stucker) Miller, both deceased. He graduated from Fisk-Rombauer High in 1958.After graduation, Mr. Miller joined the Army, making a career of it and retiring from there after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and also served in Korea, Okinawa, Japan, Germany, Turkey, Belgium and the United States of America. Mr. Miller received a Bronze Star, Army Acadian Medal twice, seven awards of Good-Conduct Medals and numerous other medals for National Defense, Korean Defense, Vietnamese Defense and Vietnamese Campaign with Fire Campaign Stars.Mr. Miller had lived in Hinesville since 1978. He had been an active member of the Hinesville Masonic Lodge #271 where he acted as a past worshipful master. He was a graduate of St. Leo College of Business and Troy State University in Banking where he obtained his Master's Degree. Mr. Miller worked in several financial institutions and worked for five years as a crossing guard for the Liberty County Sheriff's Department. He was also a member of Gum Branch Church and had attended for the past 13 years.Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Mary (Catherwood) Miller; sons, Richard Leon Miller, Marco Charles Prozzley and George Albert Carter; and brothers, George M. Miller and Ralph Miller; and sister Helen M. Miller.He will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth "Ann" (Savage) Miller; children, Anthony Paul Prozzley Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Ronald Nicholas Prozzley of Kingsland, Charles Marvin Miller (Eileen) of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeffrey Scott Carter (Tonya) of Madison and Jason Allen Carter of Statesboro; brothers, Clyde Miller of Florida, Franklin D. Miller of Kentucky and Keith Miller of Illinois; sisters, Ruth E. Denam of Missouri, Doris V. Miller of Indiana, Thelma Brooks (Fred) of Missouri and Sue and Dan of Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Gabe Gill will be officiating the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military rendered.Thomas L.
