->JACOBS, MARTIN "HAWK"Martin Jacobs age 85, a resident of Garnerville passed away at his home, February 21, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Martin served in the US Army during WWII and was awarded a Bronze Medal. Martin retired from the Rockland County Highway Dept. and also worked for the Town of Haverstraw Golf Course. Martin was inducted into the North Rockland Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He was the county's second-leading scorer in basketball in 1943 and in 1944 he outscored the entire Spring Valley team with 27 points in a 43-18 win. He played service basketball for the Army's First Division Special Services team in Germany and earned Army All-Star status on the First Division Team. He played many years for the Letchworth Big Five, St. Peter's, Knights of Columbus and Spring Valley Bengals; he played semipro football for the Haverstraw Vets. Martin is predeceased by his daughter Joanne. Survived by his beloved and devoted wife Genevieve "Ginger, and daughters Jacqueline and Karen Hujus and husband Fred, three beautiful granddaughters: Jaime Squillini, and Olivia and Rachel Hujus, and brother Frank Jacobs of Florida. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956. Family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the George M. Holt Funeral Home, Inc. Martin's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Peter's Church, Broadway, Haverstraw, NY.
