ORMOND -->Martha Turner Jackson ORMOND BEACH, FL-- Martha Beth Turner Jackson, 91, a longtime resident of Spartanburg, died Friday, September 14, 2007, at her home in Ormond Beach, FL, with her niece and nephew, Sylvia and Fred Quandt, at her bedside. Born February 20, 1916, in Landrum, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. McDuff Turner of Spartanburg and the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Charles Ben Jackson. She graduated from Lander College in 1937 and later attended Cecil's Business College. She worked as an office manager for the family-owned Carolina Scenic Stages in Spartanburg before working with her husband and brother-in-law as bookkeeper and stenographer for Scott-Jackson Kitchens from 1952 until the mid-1960's. After earning her elementary teaching certificate from Appalachian State University, Mrs. Jackson taught first grade in the Spartanburg County Schools for over ten years, first at Whitney Elementary School and later at Mary Wright Elementary School. With her husband, Mrs. Jackson was an active supporter of the Lions Club as part of "the Miami group" and an active supporter of the Wofford Booster Club. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she and her husband were devoted members of the Loyalty Class, and she was a participant in the Belinda Jenkins Bible Study group. She served at Bethel in many different roles, among them as a member of the Commissions on Membership and on Evangelism. After her move to Florida in 2005, she attended Harbor Baptist Church in Ormond Beach, FL, regularly until her death. Mrs. Jackson is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, fifteen grandnieces and nephews, and eleven great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nita Nell Turner Scott, and her three brothers, Hamish Turner, Hardin Turner, and Leon Turner, all of Spartanburg; and a nephew, Eugene Ostell of Atlanta, GA. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ronald Todd of Harbor Baptist Church in Ormond Beach, FL. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Sunday, September 23, 2007, in Ormond Beach, FL. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to Harbor Baptist Church, 428 Tomoka Avenue, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
