->SOUTH CHINA -- Martha L. (Greenleaf) Ayer, 97, wife of the late Charles Ayer, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Waterville.She was born in Fairfield on Sept. 15, 1911, the daughter of Adelbert F. and Goldie (Strong) Greenleaf.Martha was past matron of the Order of Eastern Star No. 64, Fairfield, in 1936. She had also been a member of the Orrington Garden Club and a volunteer at Orrington Public Library.She is survived by one son, Brian G. Ayer and his wife, Iola, of China; a granddaughter, Alexandra Pierce and her husband, Alan; a great-grandson, Nathan of Seymour, Conn.; a nephew, Linwood Greenleaf and his wife, Freda; a great-niece, Allison G. McLean and her husband, Clarence, all of Waterville; and several cousins and very special friends.At her request there will be no visiting hours.
