CAMPTON -- Martha G. "Peg" King, 88, of Owl Street, died Feb. 11, 2010, at Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth. She was born in McMechen, W.Va., March 26, 1921, to Percy Franklin and Freida Gertrude (Carroll) Powell. She has been a resident of Campton for more than 60 years. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant making ammunition and bombs. She also made sure a letter to the soldiers was in each box to help moral. She was a long-time member of the VFW Post 4483 auxiliary and American Legion Post 66 auxiliary, both in Plymouth. She enjoyed motorcycles and spent 50 years taking rides on the back of her husband's Harley. She belonged to the Harley Owners Group of Meredith as well as a member of the Canadian Retreads Motorcycle Club. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda King, and a son, Linden M. King. Family members include her husband, Linden A. King of Campton; and a son, James R. King of Warren. SERVICES: A private graveside service will be held in the Blair Cemetery, Campton. The Rev. Edward J. Charest, pastor of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, will officiate. Mayhew Funeral Home, in Plymouth and Meredith, is in charge of the arrangements.
