Martha Elizabeth Watford Garner, 92, of Graceville died Oct. 5, 2009. She was born in Castleberry, Ala. on April 25, 1917 to Sanders Harvey and Ammie Annie Miller Watford. She was a housewife and homemaker; and also helped her brother's by working part-time in their retail businesses. She was one of the first telephone switchboard operators in the Graceville area. She was a 1935 graduate from Graceville High School. She was a member of the Graceville First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, her husband of 52 years, Early Garner; five brothers, Glen Watford, Radius Watford both of Graceville, Henry Wallace Watford of Laguna Beach, Charles Watford of Sunnyside Beach, Fred Watford of Samson, Ala.; and one sister Effie Mae Hall of Montgomery, Ala precede her in death. Survivors include two children Mary Ann Moore and husband Pierce of Griffin, Ga.; and Wallace Earl Garner and wife Brenda of Tallahassee; a brother, Doyle Watford and wife Helen of Graceville; two sisters-in-law, Myrtice Watford of Graceville, Theo Watford of Laguna Beach; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Funeral service was Oct. 9 at the Graceville First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dan Rhodes and Pierce Moore officiating. Burial followed in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing. Memorials may be made to the Graceville First United Methodist Church.
