Laverne Henderson <br/> <br/> MAYO, SC --> Laverne Henderson MAYO, SC-- Marshall Laverne 'Vern' Henderson, 79 widower of Sylvia 'Tib' Lamb Henderson, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday October 4, 2014. Born June 24, 1935 in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Frank Henderson and Ira Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a retired millwright for Hertz-Celanese, a 50 plus year member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge # 135 where he was a Master Mason, delivered Mobile Meals, was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Chesnee First Baptist Church. Surviving are a son Nathan Darryl Henderson of Mayo; his sweetheart and companion, Brenda Kirby of Cowpens; brothers, Maynard 'Boney' Henderson of Spartanburg, Clayton Henderson of Mayo; sister, Susan Greenway of Mayo; grandchildren, Lauren Thoms (Barry), Chad Henderson (Kim); great-grandchildren, Abby Thoms, Wyatt Thoms, Hannah Henderson, Ricky Henderson and Noah Henderson. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son, Ricky Henderson, brothers, Frank James Henderson Jr., Chris Henderson, Dorman Henderson, Brian Henderson and a sister Martha Ann Wilson. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Chesnee First Baptist Church with the Rev Dr. Gary Grogan, Rev. Daryl Tolleson and Rev. Larry Fleming officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the ALS Association, 1023 Wappoo Rd. A-19 Charleston, SC 29407.
