Mark Dobrovolny Sr. Oct. 30, 1931 - May 31, 2011 SCARBOROUGH -- Mark Dobrovolny Sr., 79, a resident of Scarborough, died on May, 30, 2011. He was born on Oct. 30, 1931, in Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia, and as a young man, Mark was a dedicated hockey player and represented the Czechoslovak National Hockey Team. Mark came to the USA in the summer of 1970, with his wife Helen and sons Mark and Tomas, seeking freedom and a better life for himself and family, especially his young children taking a great deal of courage and sacrifice to escape the oppressive communist regime after the Soviet Union occupied Czechoslovakia post the 1968 'spring invasion.' He came to this country with faith, two suitcases, his wife and young family, leaving everything behind which was later confiscated by his former Government. Mark found his freedom, built his home and settled in New Jersey where he lived with his wife for over 35 years. They moved to Scarborough in 2008 to be close to their family and after the progression of Parkinson's disease required same. May he rest in peace and may God and his angels look over him. He will be missed by his wife, Helen; his sons; grandchildren, Brett and Jason; his daughters- in-law, Susan and Jane; and sister, Ada Vanova. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Scarborough. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
