GILLIS, Marjorie Ruth Marjorie passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 6, 2008 following a courageous battle against cancer. Predeceased by her loving husband John (Jack") and her sister Shirley, she will be sadly missed by her sons Mark (Diana) and Ian (Roberta) and grandchildren Sarah and Adam. Marjorie was born in Calgary (frequently returning over the years to enjoy the Stampede with loving cousins Bob and Eleanor) and moved to Victoria where she met Jack. Marjorie graduated from the RJH School of Nursing in 1948. She later returned to UVic as a mature student and successfully completed her BSN. Marjorie lived a full and active life. Years ago she was a regular swimmer at the UVic pool amassing a collection of I swam to " T-shirts. Many residents of South Oak Bay knew her by sight through her daily walking of her grand dog". Everything Marjorie took on, she pursued with passion including: gardening, bird watching, computer classes, photography, opera and symphony. Marjorie traveled extensively including countries from the Galapagos Islands to Kenya and throughout Europe. Her combined passion for opera and travel took her to many of the great opera houses around the world. Marjorie was an excellent dinner companion, her experiences and travels providing material for interesting stories always told with humour and wit traits that she retained to her final days. For the past year Marjorie was a resident of Berwick House on Shelbourne Street. Marjorie's family would like to thank Berwick House staff, with a special `thank you' to the Nursing Ward staff for the caring support and the quality of life provided for Marjorie. A memorial service for Marjorie will be held at Saint Mary's Church 1701 Elgin Road, at 2:00 p.m. Monday November 10, 2008. Reception to follow. In lieu of Flowers please make donations to the SPCA of Victoria. 511649 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 11/8/2008 - 11/10/2008
