BENNINGTON - Marjorie Stefan La Rowe, 95, died Dec. 19, 2009, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a brief illness.She was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., May 2, 1914, the daughter of Walter Jacob and Ella (Hecht) Stefan.She received her education in the Chicago area and was a 1936 graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. On Oct. 1, 1937, she married Franklin Hewitt La Rowe in New York City. Mr. La Rowe died in 1982. Mrs. La Rowe was a member of Second Congregational Church in Bennington where she was active in the Women's Fellowship, the choir and the reading program. She volunteered at Bennington Library and Bennington Museum and supported Oldcastle Theater. She was a reader for Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic.She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed traveling, and played golf well into her 80s.Survivors include two children, Eugene La Rowe of Plymouth, Mass., and Dr. Marjorie La Rowe of Bennington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Jacob Stefan. The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Second Congregational Church in Bennington with the Rev. Mary Lee-Clark, pastor, officiating.
