PORTSMOUTH — Marion Elouise (Watson) Walker, 79, of Mascoutah, Ill., and Portsmouth, died peacefully in her childhood home on Thursday, June 17, 2010, after being lovingly cared for in her last weeks by her family and neighbors.Marion was born in Portsmouth on Feb. 13, 1931. She grew up in the Atlantic Heights neighborhood of Portsmouth and attended Portsmouth schools. Marion was married to her husband Steve for 62 years. After traveling as an Air Force family for years, they settled in Mascoutah, Ill., in 1971. She was predeceased by her son Bruce and by her parents Ernest Watson and Eleanor (Ward) Watson.She leaves behind her husband and children, Michael and his wife Joan of Springfield, Va., Stephen and his wife Deborah of Greenland, Barbara and her special friend Misty Rhoades and her son Dylan of Charleston, Ill., and Patricia Fairbairn and her husband Mark of Greenland. She delighted in the company of her eight grandchildren, Kathleen, Gregory, Christopher, Jessica, Scott, Shawn and Emma Walker and Andrew Fairbairn. Her loving family also includes her brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Mary Ann Watson and Robert and Ann Watson, Margaret (Peg) Walker, cousin Betty Ann Snively and many nieces and nephews. Marion was also the beloved neighbor and friend of Donnie and Kay Ostrom and family of Mascoutah, Ill.Having the kindest of hearts, Marion was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply, deeply missed.Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Monday, June 21, from 5-7 p.m. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22 at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Fellows, pastor, of the Greenland Community Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Grove Cemetery (South Street Cemetery).
