CROPSYVILLE Marion R. Hakes, age 91, a resident of New York Rt. 2, died at her residence on Monday evening, December 29, 2003, following a long illness. She was born in Cropseyville, on January 25, 1912 and was the daughter of Charles H. and Bessie L. (Greene) Rifenburg. She received her education in local schools. She is the widow of Leslie Hakes. Mrs. Hakes had been employed as a clerk with the New York State Department of Transportation for many years. Mrs. Hakes was a member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Brunswick Sportsmen's Club. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Betsy H. Brenenstuhl and Shirley and Thomas Wheeler, all of Cropseyville. She has six grandchildren; Mrs. David (Katherine) Ventker, Michael and Lisa Wheeler, William Wheeler, Mrs. Robert (Roberta) Hayward, Mrs. Bryan (Beth) Myers and Warren Brenenstuhl, and five great-grandchildren. She has one sister-in-law, Alice Gould of Schenectady. She is predeceased by one son-in-law Robert Brenenstuhl, one brother Earl Rifenburg, and two sisters, Gladys Brink, Ruth Rifenburg. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 3, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David Martin, officiating. A time of Fellowship will follow at the church hall, following the services. There are no calling hours scheduled. Interment will take place privately in Brookside Cemetery. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Hope United Methodist Church, 566 Brunswick Road, Troy, NY 12180.
