Mr. Marion Lewis Anderson, 85, of Sylvania, passed Wednesday afternoon, February 2, 2011, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in occupied Germany. Following his service to his country, he attended and graduated from the University of Georgia, with a Master's degree. He made Sylvania his home in 1956, where he began working for the Screven County High School as their new ag teacher. After teaching, he pursued a career in insurance and retired as an agent from State Farm. He enjoyed his retirement and remained active. He enjoyed spending his time at his farm and hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Spring Lake Hunting and Fishing Club, The Sylvania Lionís Club and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania, where he faithfully served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tausie Dent and Lewis Ransom Anderson; stepmother, Leary Baxter Anderson; and his beloved wife of 61 years, Nell Thomas Anderson. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Gloria Anderson of Statesboro and Gene and Gail Anderson of Anderson, S.C.; six grandchildren, Matt and Misty Anderson, Tiffany Anderson, Jeremy Jackson, Jayme Burdette, Adam Mosso and Mandy White; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, Screven Chapel. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sylvania with Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Screven County Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Lucas, Colt Rushing, Clark Deal, Jonathon Taylor, Brandon Russell and Carl Crews. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Heath, Boykin Stuart, Bill Tyre, Tina Long, Moses Griner and Margerite Pye.
