Norwich - Marion H. Ames, 87, formerly of Niantic, entered eternal life on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011.She was born April 3, 1924 in New London, the daughter of late Frank and May (LaPorte) Burke. She graduated from the former Williams Memorial Institute class of 1941. She was united in marriage to Harold K. Ames on Oct. 28, 1946 in St. Agnes Church. Mr. Ames died Dec. 30, 1996. Marion worked as a bookkeeper for the Mitchell family business in Niantic for many years before retiring. Marion will be remembered for her determination, independence, love of family and sense of humor.She is survived by two children, Susan and husband, Charles Gallagher, of N.J., Donald Ames and fiance, Jessie Freedle, of N.C. Six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Winnie Kent of Waterford.She was predeceased by six siblings, Frank Burke Jr., Viola Paulus, Grace Taylor, Dorothy Burrows, Frances Filosi and Virginia Ouuparik.Family and friends are asked to gather at 10 a.m. Saturday for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the donors choice of charity.The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with arrangements.
