Marilyn Jane Williams, my best friend and my wife of 62 years, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Melody Lane, Havenwood-Heritage Heights, surrounded by her loving family. Alzheimer's disease claimed her after more than a decade long struggle. Her spirit never wavered. She shared her love of life and her good humor daily. Marilyn was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 21, 1934 the only child of Frederick T. and Ina M. (Marden) Phillips. Marilyn graduated from Penacook High School and was Valedictorian of her graduating Class of 1951. She was a member of the Penacookies, sang in the school choral group and loved Dick Blanchard's Latin Club. She sang in the choir of the United Church of Christ in Penacook and later in the choir of the Canterbury Community Church where she also taught Sunday school and played piano for the Christmas pageant. She was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was always a caring friend and could be counted on in difficult times. As a teenager, she enjoyed stocking shelves in the old First National in Penacook where her dad was manager. In her youth she worked for Citibank in New York City. In later years, she was a teacher's assistant at Burnham Brook School in Canterbury where she loved working with her students She loved nature: The scent of a mayflower, the song of a chickadee and the simple pleasure of a walk in the woods, the majesty of the night sky. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Kenneth L. Williams of Canterbury; three sons, Dale F. Williams, of Canterbury, Christopher L. Williams and Sean K. Williams both of Penacook; a daughter Kathleen Williams of Canterbury; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her son, Todd David Williams, preceded her in death. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 23. 2014, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Canterbury. The Bennett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held in the spring of 2015.
