Marilyn J. Whitten, 76, passed away on Dec. 17, 2006 in New Orleans, La. Her family was with her.Marilyn was born in Little Falls, N.Y. She moved to Florida to attend Weber College where she received a degree in merchandising. After marrying and raising her family, she returned to school at Florida Atlantic University and Florida State University to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees in education.Marilyn was a devoted educator having taught middle school math in Tallahassee. Upon retirement, she and her husband Bill, moved to St. Augustine in 1995. Marilyn was a devout member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. She was active in the St. Anastasia Ladies Association, the Red Hat ladies association and Delta Omicron, the local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, the advancement of the teaching profession and altruism. She also gave of her time to Catholic Charities and the Flagler Hospital medical intensive care unit. Marilyn is predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Bill, and her parents, Tom and Ann Averson.She is survived by her loving daughter, Meredith and son-in-law, Bruce, son Bill and daughter-in-law, Lynn; granddaughter, Rebecca and husband Mark, granddaughter Christie, granddaughter Erin and husband Ayesh, and grandson Tom.Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, New Orleans, is in charge of arrangements. Mass will be said at St. Anastasia Catholic Church on Dec. 29, 2006 at 9 a.m.In lieu of flowers, it was Marilyn's desire that contributions be made to the Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation.
