MARIAN CARTER 1918 - 2014 Died peacefully at age 96 years on Saturday, July 5, 2014 after a brief illness surrounded by her family. Predeceased by siblings Quincey, Stanley and Ivan Jackson; and her loved husband William Peter Carter. Survived by her sister Isobel (Wilf) of Vancouver; her 3 children Susan (Alan), Philip (Heather) and David (Donna); 8 grandchildren Erin (Jeff), Alice (Jamie), Sally (Brendan), Murray (Catherine), Graham (Melinda), John Ross, Alexander and Hadley; and 2 great- grandchildren Carter and Yannik, with more on the way. Marian was a classy, warm and gracious lady. She was born and raised in Winnipeg while cherishing her family roots in Prince Edward Island. She spent most of her adult life in Don Mills as the mother of an athletic, high-energy and well-travelled family. Her multigenerational family were at the centre of her life. Everyone gravitated to the family home in Don Mills for almost 60 years, the home where she shared important life lessons and governed to the end. She was engaged actively in all aspects of her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives, documenting her families' accomplishments and adventures in her prodigious diaries and photographs. She was a superb dressmaker and furniture restorer, an active member of the community and a volunteer for many years at Toronto General Hospital. As an eager member of the seniors' Glee Club at Taylor Place, she loved to sing to audiences of senior residents who were many years her junior. This bright and feisty spark will be intensely missed by her entire family, many friends and good neighbours. Special thanks to those who cared for her, especially Susan MacAndrew, and in the last year Lydia Agpaoa and Susan Magdiby. A Reception will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. at the family home at 102 Plateau Crescent, Don Mills, the site of many memorable gatherings. In lieu of flowers, donations to Taylor Place or your charity of choice would be welcome. Condolences pauloconnorfuneral home@rogers.com
