Marguerite Elizabeth (O'Brien) Harrington of Endicott Marguerite Elizabeth (O'Brien) Harrington, age 92, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend, went gently and peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday morning, April 15, 2007, at Ideal Nursing Center, Endicott, N.Y. Marguerite (Midge) was born on March 12, 1915 in Endicott, N.Y., to James and Mary O'Brien who predecease her. Marguerite was the last surviving sibling from this family of three brothers, Charles, Thomas (Grace), and James O'Brien; and two sisters, Maidy (Leonard) Gage and Alice O'Brien. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law, David F. Gould; and special niece, Virginia Barnes. Marguerite graduated in 1933 from Union-Endicott High School and worked for a short time at IBM Corporation until she married Cramer (Bud) Harrington, Sr. in 1934, settling in West Endicott to raise two children who survive her: daughter, Dawne Gould, Apalachin, N.Y.; and son, Cramer Harrington, Jr., Smithtown, N.Y. She later returned to the work world for The Burt Company, Rouff Furniture, Cadre Industries, retired from Ideal Hospital (office), and continued working for O'Brien Oil Company and Savory Oil Company. She was a member of St. Ambrose Church, Endicott, N.Y., where she received the Sacraments and was married. She was a member of their Altar and Rosary Society. She attended daily Mass, Novenas, Devotions, whenever possible. She volunteered to visit and cheer up the lonely in The Waters Nursing Home, Endicott, N.Y. She loved spending time with her daughter, traveling with her to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed several trips to Florida to visit her son and daughter-in-law, Barbara. She loved to play cards and garden before her last decade of life. Besides her daughter, and son and daughter-in-law, Marguerite is survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Art Kirsch, Canandaigua, N.Y., Karl and Nancy Gould, Harleysville, Pa., Andy and Lori Gould, Camillus, N.Y., Kevin and Regina Harrington, Holbrook, N.Y., Michael and Beth Harrington, Wellesley, Mass., Teri and Marc Camille, Smithtown, N.Y. and Baltimore, Md., Susan and Heath Proffitt, Richmond, Va., and Kristen and Josh Smith, Summit, N.J. She is survived by 20 precious great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Carlyle Schild; cousins, nieces, and nephews; a special nephew, John (Patricia) O'Brien, Fairport, N.Y.; and a special grandniece, Mary (Joseph) Pish, Newark Valley, N.Y. She is also survived by Dawne's loving and dear friend, Salvatore Prudenzano, Apalachin, N.Y., his children and mother; and many friends that she has known during her lifetime. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. Her family would like to thank some special friends that watched out for Marguerite when she lived in Longmeadows, Owego, N.Y., especially Bill and Kate Robinson, and Anna Rousso. Also a special thanks to all the staff at Tioga Senior Living Campus in Waverly, N.Y., especially nurse Rhonda Madtes, and special friend, Marie Maurer. Her family thanks the staff at Ideal Nursing Home, Endicott, N.Y., especially in Daisy Court for their attentive care during Marguerite's last four weeks on earth. In memory of Marguerite, please reach out a helping hand to the elderly and infirmed whenever you can. You may make a donation in her memory to Animal Care Council, 131 Washington Ave., Endicott, N.Y.; or to St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Ave., Endicott, N.Y.; or to an organization of your choice.
