Margaret Wilcox Decker Margaret Wilcox Decker, 79, of Oneonta, NY and Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully in her home in Oneonta on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born in Oneonta on April 26, 1926, the daughter of Thomas and Madeline Wilcox. She attended St. Mary's School and Oneonta High School. She earned her nursing degree from the College of St. Rose, and her BS and MS from SUCO. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a nurse at Fox Hospital and for area doctors. Many area residents will remember Mrs. Decker as the school nurse who took care of their scrapes and pains. Margaret worked as a school nurse teacher for the Oneonta School District from 1964 until 1986. She also taught courses for school nurse teachers at SUCO for several years. She was a member of the Capital District Nurses Association and the St. Rose Alumnae Organization for many years. She married William Howard Decker on June 28, 1947. Together, they loved family trips to Cape Cod, frequent get togethers with many friends, bridge club, golf, and sharing the goodies from their business, Decker's Bakery, with all their children's friends. In retirement, they loved to travel and visit their children and grandchildren. Their winters in Florida were full of beach time, entertaining, and travel Margaret is predeceased by her parents, her husband William, her infant son John, and her daughter, Janet Decker Darling. She will be missed by her three sons and three daughters: Thomas Howard Decker of Troy, NH; Carol Forman-Pemberton (Donald) of Burnt Hills, NY; Kathleen Byrum (Craig) of Manlius, NY; Marianne Carter (Kevin) of Lake Oswego, OR; William James Decker (Maureen) of Oneonta., NY; and Robert Michael Decker (Deborah) of Mission Viejo, CA. She will always be in the hearts of her seventeen grandchildren: Luke, Jake, Rory, Brenna, Daniel, Braden, Melissa, Stephen, Matthew, Brian, Kelly, Seth, Colin, Jenny, Todd, Casey and Danni. Seven great-grandchildren will also miss her: Zachary, Evyn, Megan, Connor, Merrick, Jaxon, and Christian. Margaret is also survived by her dear friend, George Moore, of Stuart, FL. Margaret's family is very grateful for the loving professional support they received through Margaret's illness from members of the Catskill Area Hospice and At Home Care agency, and several private duty attendants. They are also grateful for the supportive visits and phone calls of Margaret's many loving friends. Calling hours will be held at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street in Oneonta from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, April 17, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, with the Reverend Anthony Chiaramonte officiating, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the charity of choice.
