Margaret V.(Clancy) Murphy, 96, of Centerville, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 in Wingate at Silver Lake, Kingston. Wife of the late Andrew F. Murphy. Beloved mother of Andrew F. Murphy Jr. and his wife Marylou of Bainbridge Island, WA, Richard E. Murphy and his wife Darlene of Kiawah Island, SC, and John F. Murphy and his wife Joanne of Duxbury, MA. She had six grandchildren, Andrew F. Murphy III, Patrick Murphy, Megan Murphy, Kaitlyn Murphy, Gregory Murphy, Deidre Murphy and three great-grandchildren, Anne, Lily and Bridgett. She had four sisters who all predeceased her. Peg Murphy and Andy raised their three sons in Quincy where she and her husband were active members in Wollaston Golf Club. Her friends from Wollaston were friends for life and she held them in high esteem. In her youth, she was an accomplished swimmer who won many medals and trophies. Her competitive spirit manifested itself in many ways beside golf. She bowled candlestick pins and rarely lost to any of her three sons and frequently led her league team to success. When Andy retired, they moved to Cape Cod and joined Hyannisport Golf Club where Peg played until she was 88. For those who had the privilege of knowing her, there is nothing more that set her aside from others than her remarkable sense of humor. Visiting hours was in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. (Rte. 28) Marstons Mills, MA on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 from 4 - 8 p.m.. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Feb 13, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St. Centerville. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
