MURPHY, Margaret O. Passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2014 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Margaret is survived by several cousins in England and by many friends in Canada and England. Born and educated in England Margaret served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the latter part of World War Two. Following the war she obtained a teaching diploma from Redlands in Bristol, England and taught school in Kent until she emigrated to Canada in 1953. She worked at the University of Toronto until 1967, when she moved to Saskatoon to help establish the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan. Following her retirement in 1989, Margaret moved to Victoria. From 1991 - 1993 she served as President of the James Bay United Church Women and was also a member of the Executive of the Newcomers Club for the same period. A Memorial Service will be held at James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan Street, Victoria on Monday May 12th at 10am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon. Special thanks to Dr. Cook, the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Oak Bay Lodge and the VIHA for their compassion and care during her final days.
