Hartwell - Mrs. Margaret Kennedy O'Neal, 79, of 144 Lakeshore Drive, Hartwell, GA, died Monday, December 15, 2003 at Athens Regional Medical Center.A native of Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Barnie Lee Kennedy and Mildred Ruth Hagin Kennedy. She was a graduate of North Georgia College and the University of Georgia, where she received a B.A. in Business Administration. She belonged to the AOPi Sorority. She served over 40 years at the Hartwell Company under the leadership of Jimmy Bell, Sr. as Office Manager and after retiring she served as an assistant to Charlotte S. Bell. She was an active member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, currently serving as the President of the United Methodist Women and was a past President of the Sally Harper Circle of the UMW. She currently served as secretary-treasurer of the Northview Cemetery Association and also secretary-treasurer of the Hart County Historical Society. She was a member of the Georgia Dahlia Society and Carolina Dahlia Society and was a member and past President of the Pine Tree Garden Club. She was also a past President of Credit Professional Women's International of Hartwell.She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ralph O'Neal of the home; one son: James K. O'Neal of Atlanta, GA, and two daughters: Margaret O'Neal of Athens, GA, and Alice O'Neal of Covington, GA, aunt: Bertha Hagin of Statesboro, GA, and cousin: Eloise Simmons Jackson of Wrightsville, GA. Her parents and a daughter precede her in death: Patricia Ann O'Neal.Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Hartwell First United Methodist Church. Rev. R. Allen Stewart and Rev. Jim Winn will officiate. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. The family is at the home.
