Margaret Mary Bittner Decker RexfordMargaret Decker of Rexford, New York, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014. Her beloved husband, Clayton Grant Decker will greet her at heaven's gates. Peggy and Clayt were devoted to each other. Armed with hammers and dreams, they built a home on the Mohawk River, where they lived happily for decades. They traveled the rivers of the US in their boat, Snoopy, making friends from all over the country. Peggy was a clerical worker for the US Army and later worked for Schenectady Trust Bank. She was predeceased by her parents, Sarah Hoar Bittner and Richard Bittner; brother, Lawrence Bittner; and her sister, Emily Bittner Chichester. Survivors include her cherished nieces, Jeanne DuBar Conlon (husband, William) of Connecticut and Vivian Bittner Marek (husband, Douglas) of Maryland; and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews. Peggy lived independently until she was 99, but was never lonely. The breadth of her loved ones was apparent as dozens celebrated her 100th birthday with her in January. Special thanks to the volunteers at Care Links. At first they provided friendly calls but quickly became dear friends who brightened her days. The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Schulyer Ridge for providing care, love and compassion. Peggy unselfishly donated her body to Albany Medical College's Anatomical Gift Program.
