STUART, Margaret "Peggy" Marie McCauley, died as a result of complications from cardiovascular dementia (a memory disorder) October 21, 2007. A native of Bristol, Va., she was born November 18, 1927; she missed her 80th birthday by exactly one month. Peggy Stuart loved children and was active in church work in Memphis, working in the Bellevue Baptist Church nursery and serving as a Sunday school teacher. She assisted many women as both teacher and counselor during her many years as a Bible study fellowship leader. To all her roles, she brought remarkable skills as an insightful, articulate writer, teacher and public speaker. By many, "Miss Peggy" will be remembered as a lady with impeccable fashion sense, a winning smile and an infectious laugh. At Sunday morning church, she was never without a hat, and she always wore bright colors with panache. She loved holidays and parties. She and her husband, John W. Stuart Jr., loved nothing more than enjoying an evening of dancing to "big band" music. John was a district manager for State Farm Insurance Co. in Memphis for nearly 40 years. Peggy' s beauty, both inside and out, was renowned. She was the "May Queen" of Bristol, Va., a cheerleader at Virginia High School, and she was a model in fashion shows at many Memphis functions and at Chickasaw Country Club. Her beauty shown throughout her 16 years of illness, and comforting smile for her caregivers was never far from her lips. Peggy McCauley Stuart is survived by her sister, Marilyn Grayson of Palm City, Fla.; three children, John White Stuart III of Westbrook, Maine, Shawn Stuart Nixon of Dacula, Ga., and Nora Kelly Stuart Williams of Odessa, Fla.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The viewing will take place 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2007, at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn., where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2007. Memorial gifts may be sent to Van Dyke Methodist Church, "Acts 1:8 Outreach Fund," John W. Stuart Jr. and Peggy M. Stuart Memorial, 17030 Lakeshore Road, Lutz, FL 33558.
