Margaret L. Known as Peggy, died March 2, 2002 in Hamden, Connecticut at the age of 93. Peggy was married to John William Clark, formerly Mayor of Marathon, who predeceased her in 1987. She was also predeceased by Thaddeus Wells Clark and Elizabeth Wells Clark, brother and sister-in-law. She is survived by another brother-in-law, H Chandler Clark of Woodbridge, Connecticut, and six nieces and nephews. Peggy was a resident of Marathon for most of her life and devoted much of her time there to charitable and civic matters. She served as a Republican Committee woman and she worked actively for the American Red Cross, Bundles for Britain, the Cortland Hospital Aid Society, and the Peck Memorial Library. She was a founder of the Marathon Youth Group. She also belonged to the Art and Literature Club. Peggy was born in Elmira, New York, the only child of Myron and Mary Leishear. She was a graduate of the Cortland Normal School in Cortland, New York and taught kindergarten both in Delhi and Marathon. While her husband served in the U.S. Army, Peggy worked for the Arctic League in Elmira, a charitable organization serving needy families at Christmas time. A graveside memorial service is planned for spring at the Marathon Rural Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Peck Memorial Library, P.O. Box 325, Marathon, New York, 13803.
