Margaret June FergusonOctober 9, 1928 - August 31, 2013It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandma and great-granny, June Ferguson, on Aug. 31.As third generation born in Victoria on Oct. 9, 1928 to Joseph and Ethel Short (née Brown), Mom had deep ties to the history of Victoria. She embarked into her school years at Quadra Primary, graduating through to Victoria High School and was at Victoria College where her future husband, Hugh, approached her and opened with "I think you know my two sisters." As fellow members of the Victoria Drill Team at that time, Mom most certainly did know Dad's sisters and from there a relationship blossomed.Mom worked in the lab at BC Forestry until shortly after her marriage to Dad. From there, Mom's career took off as a loving wife to her husband, a devoted mother to her children, wonderful grandma and great-granny to grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the perfect hostess to everyone who entered her home.Besides her husband and children, Mom's passions were her boat, Sea Witch II, the trips she and Dad took to many parts of the world and her needlework. A member of the 'Happy Hookers', her lovely Canadiana-style rugs are adorned with numerous prize ribbons and forever treasured are the beautiful Christmas stockings Mom made for family members. Pre-deceased by the love of her life, Hugh, on Dec. 26, 2012, Mom leaves behind her sister-in-law, Pam White; brother-in-law, Glenn Weatherhead; children Leslie (John), Pam (Jack), Keith (Leslee); grandchildren John (Jen), Jacqui, Mark, Amy, Greg (Kim), Adam (Meagan); great-grandchildren Dylan, Shelby, Zoey and Erin, as well as nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family would like to extend heart-felt thanks to Dr. Dan Buie, Dr. John Kelly and the wonderful staff at Kiwanis Pavilion for taking such good care of Mom.A small graveside service was held with immediate family present but Mom would be very honoured if you sipped a wee dram of single malt whiskey in her memory. Together again with Dad, Mom.
