->PHILLIPS -- Margaret E. Davenport, 87, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2006, following four months at Edgewood Manor in Farmington, with her family at her side.She was born April 12, 1919, a daughter of Ella McVoy and George Albert Witham, the youngest of four children.She received her education at Stanley High School in Kingfield, graduating in 1937 followed by the State Street School of Nursing in Portland. She was employed at the City Hospital in Portland and later at a dentist office in that same city. Upon returning to Phillips, she worked at local mills until the death of her husband, whereupon she went to work at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. While there, she passed her state board examination. She remained a licensed pratical nurse for 19 years.She married Stanton A. Davenport in Portland on Jan. 5, 1947. He passed away Oct. 20, 1962.Through television she was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying golf. She enjoyed playing cribbage with the local tournament in Phillips and, before ill health, enjoyed bowling and mini golf. She also enjoyed the wintertime and A&E musical events at the Salem Community Center. Quietly taking a back seat, she never missed a single fundraiser helping with the "Main St. 90" town clock fundraiser for a full year, and the Penny Sale Auction and golf tournaments to benefit the Phillips Public Library.She especially enjoyed shopping at local card shops to find the perfect card for the many family members and friends she wanted to remember. She opened her home during the Old Home week parade to all of her family and friends so they could find parking and view the parade from a selected spot on Main Street.She is survived by a son, Peter, and his wife, Anne, of Kingfield; two sisters, Florence Beane and Oscarene French, also of Kingfield; two grandsons, Barry Davenport, and his wife, Mikelle, of Kingfield, and Brent Davenport, and his wife, Bonni, of New Portland; two great-grandchildren, Jacey and Riley Davenport of New Portland; sisters-in-law Winona Davenport of Phillips, and Grace Williams of Gray; brother-in-law William Davenport of Wilbraham, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and close friends Buss and Barb Allen of Middlefield, Conn.She was predeceased by a brother, Henry; her parents; and a lifelong friend, Mable Reed.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Phillips Congregational Church, Phillips, with Pastor Sue Kaplan and Mike Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Dan and Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to one of the following: Golf Opportunities for Children, P.O.
