Horne passed away, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, December 20, 2010, in Gardner, Kan., at the age of 60, after a long fight with multiple sclerosis. Margaret (Margie) was born in Belleville, Kan., on June 7, 1950 to Curtis and Libby Hallack. She married Larry J. Horne on June 1, 1970. She graduated with an R.N. from Stormont Vail Nursing School in Topeka, Kan. in 1972. She later completed a bachelor of science in nursing from Southwest Missouri State University. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse and was awarded Nurse of the Year in 1993. Margaret was a beacon of light for everyone that met her. Her charismatic personality got her through her 20 year struggle with MS with humor and grace. She was a devoted wife and partner, a loving doting mother to her two girls, and a caring and compassionate friend. Margaret is survived by her husband, Larry; her two daughters, Christie Kellum and Nikki Stricker; her two grandsons, Parker Lloyd and Tyler Kellum; her mother, Libby Hallack; and her siblings, Ron Hallack, Marsha O'Leary and Donna Goodwin. Visitation will begin at 10 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11 A.M., Monday, December 27, 2010, at Park Lawn Funeral Home's South Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family wishes to thank the staff of Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital for making Margaret feel not like a patient, but like part of a loving family during her 12-year residence.
