Avis de décès de Margaret-A. -Black Harris

AUGUSTA -- Margaret (Peg) A. Black Harris, 92, peacefully completed her earthly journey on April 3, 2010, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center following a short illness.Peg was loved and admired by those who knew her and always offered a smile, goodwill and kind words to all she met. Peg was born in Rome, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1917, to John D. and Jessie L. Hawes Black. She graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended Cornell University. In 1940 Peg married Willard Harris in a military wedding in Florida. They moved to Maine in 1947 and lived in West Gardiner for more than 40 years. For the past 15 years she has lived in Gardiner. While she worked mostly in the home, for a time she worked as a teacher's aide at Gardiner Area High School, where she is still remembered fondly by students with whom she came in contact. She was active in the community serving as the first woman from West Gardiner on the SAD 11 school board during the years the high school was being built and as a ballot clerk. Peg was a longtime contributing member of the Gardiner Current Events Club. She was also very active in the life and affairs of Christ Church Episcopal in Gardiner, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, prayer group and lay ministry. Peg loved writing poetry and prose, gardening, reading and, most of all, being with her family and friends who always felt better for being around her. She had a great sense of humor as well as a wonderful and unique ability to make people feel better about themselves through her positive attitude and caring nature. She was well known in the area for her kindness and giving attitude, her infectious smile, and for the flowers she wore in her hair every day -- and later added to her cane -- always color coordinated to what she was wearing. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Willard R. Harris, in 1995 and by her daughter Melodie Harris Maciel, in 1973.She is survived by her daughter, Carol Louise Despres , of Dover N.H.; her son, Willard R.
