CARTER Mamie Bell Prevatt Carter, 90, passed away Friday, August 15, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Born in Council, Georgia, to the late Jennie Crews and James Prevatt, she lived in Jacksonville since 1949. She was a devoted wife and mother and a longtime member of Park Lane Baptist Church. Mamie loved people, was an avid reader and volunteered at the Arthritis Center. She was preceded in death by two of her grandsons and by her beloved husband of 75 years, Roy E. Carter (1971). She is survived by four daughters, Vonceil Blackmon (Bill), Mildred Philyaw (Tom), Linda Costley (Ivan), all of Jacksonville, and Shirley Bryan (Leon) of Rockville, Md., three sons, Widma Carter (Ella) of Live Oak, Fla., Roy Carter (Helen) of Jacksonville, and Don Carter (Marcia) of La Belle, Fla., 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. Pastors Rick Phipps and Bobby Anderson will conduct Funeral services at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 19th, at Park Lane Baptist Church, 1480 Lake Shore Blvd., with interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park (South Side). The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Monday evening at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 729 S. Edgewood Ave. Please sign the Guestbook at Jacksonville.com
