On Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the hour of worship, our beloved Mother, Deaconess Missionary Magdalene (Pollock) Smith Jackson joined a great 'cloud of witnesses' in that holy city - to worship and praise God throughout eternity. Blessed be the name of the Lord!Magdalene was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Two Egg, Florida. She was the fifth of seven children born to the late Arlington and Ludiah Pollock, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were four brothers: Dallas, Henry, Nathaniel, and Kaleb.She attended Union Grove High School in Greenwood FL. She was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Two Egg, where she accepted and professed Christ at an early age. It was at New Hope where the foundation was laid for theperformance of great works in the church and community. She began her long career as a cook at the Pleasant Inn Café, located on the East End of Panama City under the employment and mentorship of Black entrepreneur, Mrs. Louvenia Holmes-Lewis, and ended at the Sheraton Miracle Mile Resort, Panama City Beach. She was a long time active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She worked hard for her family, and loved to have fun.Our dear Mother, Deaconess, Missionary Magdalene (Pollock) Smith Jackson waves a final goodbye to this world. She will be greatly missed. She leaves to mourn her passing, three devoted children, Darlean Smith of Pensacola FL, Lowell Thomas (Luelver) Smith of Pensacola FL, and Woodrow (Dorothy) Smith of Houston TX; two brothers, Benjamin (Irene) Pollock of Bronx NY, and John (Alice) of Laurelton NY; three grandsons, Naasson Thomas (Amanda) Smith of Columbus GA, Woodrow Smith, Jr. of Houston TX, and Kendrick Benford of Houston TX; one great-grandson, Naasson Smith of Columbus GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, friends and neighbors.Public visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 starting at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a family hour from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Ella Edwards, Officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
