Madeline Marguerite Lang (née Gray) Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully and in the company of her niece Marilyn McNamara, October 22nd, 2004 at Trent Valley Lodge, Trenton, Ontario, Madeline Lang passed away in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband Garnet; brother Lloyd Gray; sisters Arla Gruenke, Frances Kapitan and Alice Ginn; and by two nephews, Carman(Don) Gray and Douglas Gruenke. She is survived by her sister Thelma Fanning of Vancouver; nine nieces and nephews and their families. Madeline, known also as "Madge", "Bun" or simply "Aunt Bun" to so many was born May 13, 1913 the second youngest daughter of Frank and Leila Gray. Growing up in the Dominion City area of Manitoba, she was always quite active in the community, although illness in her teens prevented her from pursuing her dream of a nursing career. Following her marriage to Garnet Lang, she moved to Langside, near Arnaud where they and Garnet's brother Ted, farmed together. The Lang’s usually boarded the teacher of Langside School and Madge was well known for her great meals. Many of the teachers kept in touch with Madge and Garnet through the years. In 1965, the Lang’s retired to Winnipeg where Madge cared for both Ted and Garnet in their declining years. In 1984, Madeline moved to the St. James Kiwanis Lodge, 100 Sinawik Bay where she was a Charter Member and an active participant in many of the activities available there. She enjoyed cribbage, bridge, shuffleboard and also worked on different committees. In November 2001, in failing health, Madge moved to Trenton, Ontario to live with her niece Marilyn McNamara and husband Tom. Madge enjoyed the birds, flowers, garden and her Saturday night hockey. In June 2004 she was hospitalized and in August was admitted to Trent Valley Lodge Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Visitation in the Chapel on Friday, October 29th, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. until time of Service at 3:00 p.m. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be nephews Cliff Ginn, Clayton Gray, Ken Fanning, Gary Fanning, Ken Gruenke and great nephew Trent Gruenke. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and the Rushnell Funeral Centre, Trenton, ON. Fond was the tie that was broken; Dear the one that is gone.
