CARTER, Madeline DorothyOn the evening of Wednesday, July 16, a truly elegant lady danced into the waiting arms of her beloved husband, while her grandson, Bob, played one of their songs. At the age of 97, the earthly life of Mandy Carter came to an end, but the love story that was her life will live on as a legacy to her family and friends. Mandy looked forward to being reunited with her beloved Wally, husband of 45 years; her loving daughter Pauline Young; her partner-in-crime and sister-in-law Betty Carter, and many, many others. Madeline Dorothy Carter was born June 10, 1917 in Haileybury, Ontario. There she attended secretarial school and worked in the Land Titles office until she met the love of her life, Wallace Vernon Carter (Wally). Their early years were spent in Northern Ontario, where they raised their four children: Patricia, Pauline, Bill and Don. They ventured west and made homes in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Mandy and Wally loved to dance and even when they were 65 they won a jive contest. Mandy continued to be the life of the party; she was always first on a dance floor, and even on a table or two. One of the many traditions that Mandy and Wally created were the caravan adventures back to Ontario, making many memories for their family. Mandy continued this tradition by being an integral part of many family vacations.Mandy led a wonderful life full of laughter and fun. Mandy and Wally were always the greatest cheerleaders at all of the grandchildren's events. She loved to go to the races, and to cheer on the Oilers and Eskimos, but she was the proudest supporter and biggest fan of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their sports and activities. Mandy made many friends in her long life. She was a caring and generous soul; always ready to step in to help a neighbour or a friend at a moment's notice. She had a heart of gold. It is impossible to measure the impact she had on those in her life. Mandy was fortunate to be surrounded by a large, loving family; she will be forever celebrated by: daughter, Pat (Terry) Mault; sons Bill (Jeanne) Carter; Don (Darlene) Carter; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. We could not have wished for a more fun and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Mandy was our guardian angel and the nucleus of our family. For 97 years we have been blessed with her laughter, her ready wit and most of all her love. Thank you for all you have given us. We will love you forever. Please join us as we celebrate Mandy's life at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 34th Avenue, on Thursday, July 24, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital to honour Mandy's love for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Expressions of sympathy may beforwarded to the family via the websitewww.hainstockedmonton.com.
