Hamel, Madeleine March 31, 2004 Madeleine Simone Hamel age 78 years, a resident of Dorion, died peacefully at her residence on Monday, March 29, 2004. Born in Strickland, Ontario, Madeleine was raised there and on September 15, 1942 was married to Henri Hamel. She moved to Thunder Bay in 1975. Madeleine spent many years caring for children through the Children's Aid Society while living in Strickland. After settling in Thunder Bay, she cared for young people from the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital right up until she was 72 years old. Madeleine is survived by her children Willy and wife Wendy, Windsor, Eddy and wife Stella, Smooth Rock Falls, Herve, Dorion, Hector, Thunder Bay, Clement and wife Marion, Thunder Bay, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Alphonse and Denige Ouellette, husband Henri, brothers, Charles Ouellette and Bernard Ouellette and sisters, Theresa Gagne and Lucille LeBlanc. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. David Gillen of St. Patrick's Cathedral officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Mrs. Madeleine Hamel in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual Dedication service will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2005.
