BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Mabel Marie Harrington, 80, widow of Leo L. Harrington, a resident of Route 7A, Shaftsbury, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at the home of Brenda Sarafin in Bennington. Born in Shaftsbury July 16, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Harrington) Niles. She received her early education in the Snow School, a one room school on East Road, and later at Bennington High School.Leo and Mabel were married on Dec. 25, 1941, in Bennington. Leo died Oct. 8, 2002.In earlier years Mabel was employed at Union Carbide Corp. and Tansitor Electronics. She later was employed for many years at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury until the time of her retirement. Together with her husband she also owned and operated Harrington Construction Co. in Shaftsbury for many years.Mabel enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Lake Dunmore with her grandchildren. In earlier years she also enjoyed trips in the family camper and hunting and fishing.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Jacqueline Harrington and Kenneth and Alanna Harrington, all of Shaftsbury; seven grandchildren, Lisa Slavin of North Bennington, Karen Emery of Spofford, N.H., Vicki Wiesel of Granby, Mass., Amy Galli of Bennington, Tina Christmas, Michael Harrington and Christine Harrington, all of Shaftsbury; 13 great-grandchildren and several cousins.The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Gratz officiating.Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
