SCHOLL, MRS. MARY ELLEN SANDERS of Pleasant Grove, Alabama went home to be with her Lord on November 29, 2011. She was with her family in her home at the time of passing. Born on July 26, 1924 to Maggie Bowers Sanders and John Hoyt Sanders in Edgewater, Alabama, she met and married her sweetheart, John Scholl, January 11, 1944 in the Edgewater/Ensley area. As a "War Bride" she remained in the Edgewater area while her husband served in the U.S. Army, Italian theater. Upon his return home they settled in Pleasant Grove, Alabama where they raised a family of four sons, William R. "Bill" (LaShawn) Scholl, John Fondie (Brenda) Scholl, Charles Tommy Scholl, and Steven Coy Scholl. Mrs. Scholl was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she worshipped and served with her friends and family for over sixty years. A genteel southern lady, her life was dedicated to spreading Christian love to the many people God brought into her life through her gift of making each person feel individually special, both in her eyes, and God's. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pleasant Grove Fire Chief (ret.) John Scholl, three brothers, Homer Sanders, Alvin Coy Sanders, Ralph "Oakie" Sanders, three sisters, Flora Sanders Smith, Alma Sanders, Thelma Sanders, Lorienne "Rennie" Sanders Bonner, and grandson Chris Scholl. She leaves behind a legacy as Mother and "Grandmama". Left to cherish her memories, along with her sons, are her grandchildren Kelley (Robert) Pope, J. W. "Bill" Scholl, Charles Scholl, Curtis (Misty) Scholl, Jason (Shalina) Scholl, Janet Walker, Steven Hopson, Joy Hopson, and (23) Great-grandchildren Chancie Crane, Alex King, Isaac King, Tanner Pope, Emalyn Pope Joanna King (Shaun) Prince, Bobbie King (Jason) Jenkins, Chyna Scholl, Chasey Scholl, Madison Scholl, Troy Scholl, Lilly Scholl, Hannah Miller, Kinsley Scholl, Kiley Scholl, Kenady Scholl, Brasden Walker, Paul Clayton, Luke Clayton, Silas Clayton, Nesia Hopson, Anna Hopson, Ben Hopson, Great-great-grandchildren Rae' Nabors, Zoey Nabors, Brayden Prince, Haley Lyons, and Hunter Banks. A special "son" Charles King and several beloved nieces and nephews. As a Homegoing Celebration the family will receive friends Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 9:00-11:00 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 452 9th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, Alabama with funeral service to be held at 11:00. Pastors Sam Frazier, Don Armstrong, and Larry Parker officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Peoples Chapel Funeral Home directing.
